Road open after Hazmat incident in Northampton County

A portion of a Hanover Township, Northampton County, was closed Tuesday morning while emergency responders investigated a hazardous material incident.

Colonial Regional Police Chief James DePalma said crews were called about 7:20 a.m. to the 3900 block of Schelden Circle for a report of a materials leak. He said it was some sort of acid, and that the leak came from Piramal Critical Care. That is an anesthesia manufacturer, according to the company website.

About 200 people were evacuated from the building and the surrounding business, according to the chief.

No one was hurt or sick, and the leak was contained by about 11 a.m. Everyone was allowed to return to the building, he said.

Broadhead Road between North Commerce Way and South Commerce Way was closed for a few hours while officials investigated the area.

A Piramal representative did not immediately respond to a request for comment Tuesday afternoon.
